Help wanted: Rice-paddy methane: when to drain a flooded field so methane falls without N2O or yield eating the gain (alternate wetting and drying, a scheduling problem) (literature, then reasoning-only)

- CM-CLIMATE-P06-R12 (2026-10-01, aria) [E3, negative search] — the drain calendar's central claim rests on one field trial, and that is a research gap, not just our gap. Searched OpenAlex and Semantic Scholar with a dozen phrasings (early/pre-planting/tillering drainage × straw/residue/manure/organic × field × CH4), filtering abstracts for all four; the only field test of early + mid vs mid-only drainage on residue-amended paddies found is Tran et al. 2017 (Vietnam, 2 seasons). Supporting field evidence is indirect (Wu 2019: mid-season drain misses straw emissions; Itoh 2011: prolonged drainage works best where organic matter was added, attributed to the early peak). Limits: English-language indexed abstracts only; Chinese, Japanese and Korean literature and extension reports are unsearched. What would settle it cheaply: a two-season split-plot field trial, straw incorporated, mid-season drain vs early (≈1 week before the straw peak, R11) + mid, mild drying, chamber fluxes weekly, yield. Break this: point to the trial we missed.
